The Avios Travel Rewards Programme has launched in South Africa, allowing travellers to collect Avios points to use for flights worldwide on British Airways.
Members of the Avios Travel Rewards Programme can fly to destinations like Victoria Falls, Durban and Mauritius just by shopping at Pick n Pay with their smart shopper card, by filling up with BP* and when using the Avios credit card, supported and issued by Absa, to pay for these and other purchases.
Avios can also be collected with Avis car rental, on British Airways flights and by selling property through Lew Geffen Sotheby’s Real Estate. This is applicable to both the British Airways Executive Club Members as well as the Avios Travel Rewards Programme members in South Africa.
Nick Pilbeam, Director of New Markets and Business Development for Avios Group Limited (AGL), says: “With the new Avios Travel Rewards Programme, members can collect Avios on things they buy every day, like bread and milk – so collecting is easy and doesn’t require people to spend on items they wouldn’t normally buy. Another great advantage is it’s free to join and Avios won’t expire, so long as you collect or redeem within three years. This means that members of the Avios Travel Rewards Programme can save money on items such as flights, allowing them to upgrade their accommodation, visit more destinations and extend their holidays.”
“We’re very excited to launch the Avios Travel Rewards Programme to help South Africans achieve their travel dreams faster. With the success that AGL has experienced with the Avios currency in the UK, Spain and the United States, we are eager to grow our footprint in South Africa,” says Pilbeam.
“Members of the Avios Travel Rewards Programme can use their Avios to get a return flight with British Airways to stunning locations like Mauritius and Victoria Falls and beyond; leaving them more spending money whilst they are on holiday. Flights start from 4 500 Avios and R350, one way, from Johannesburg to Durban,” says Pilbeam. “All British Airways domestic and regional flights have up to 50 percent cheaper taxes, fees and carrier charges than most rewards programmes because with Avios, these fees are capped at just R700 return. British Airways Executive Club Members also enjoy these benefits.”
